Ms. Davis was born in Panama and has lived in the United States for 21 years. She graduated from the University of Panama, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with an Emphasis in Pre School. She has worked as Bilingual teacher, PPCD and Head Start teacher. She has a certification as a therapist working with children with Autism. I gained a lot of experience educating families, case management and providing information on all the resources offered to parents.

Ms. Powell, Librarian
This is Ms. Powell's fifth year as librarian at Andrews. A native Austinite who attended AISD schools as a student, Ms. Powell has worked in the field of education for thirteen years beginning in higher education where she taught Spanish undergraduate courses at UT Austin. Ms. Powell then taught in AISD as a bilingual elementary teacher after volunteering as a classroom reading coach with Austin Partners in Education. Ms. Powell holds a master's degree in Spanish literature, a graduate certificate in school librarianship and is currently pursuing a M.S. in Information Science. As the Andrews librarian Ms. Powell is dedicated to creating a space where learning and ideas are celebrated and where students learn not only how to be good consumers of information but producers of new ideas as well.
La Srta. Powell tiene cuatro años trabajando como bibliotecaria en Andrews. Una nativa de Austin, asistió a las escuelas públicas de AISD y lleva catorce años enseñando a los estudiantes de primaria hasta los estudiantes universitarios. La Srta. Powell tiene una maestría en literatura española, un certificado posgraduado en bibliotecología y actualmente está haciendo una maestría en ciencia de informática. Como bibliotecaria de Andrews, la Srta. Powell se dedica a darles a los estudiantes un espacio donde se sienten respetados por sus ideas y orgullosos de su aprendizaje.

Ms. Verkerk, Reading Specialist
Ms. Verkerk has been teaching at Andrews for 9 years. She began as a first grade teacher, then taught second grade, and is now a reading specialist. Ms. Verkerk is finishing her training to be a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and teaches Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia written by the Scottish Rite Hospital. She is also pursuing a master's degree of special education specializing in dyslexia. Ms. Verkerk is proud to support Andrews' students with dyslexia, and loves to help improve reading and comprehension skills for all students. If you have a question or concern about reading or dyslexia, Ms. Verkerk is a great person to ask!
