Today commemorates the events that happened on September 11, 2001. That day was a frightening and sad time for the people living in the United States and for many people around the world. Some bad choices were made by a small number of individuals who disagreed with U.S. policies. People everywhere, and of all ages, sent cards, gifts, and money to offer support. Many came to New York City to offer help. These events altered the course of history and led to changes that impact our lives today. These events illustrate that we must show kindness and understanding towards all people, and that we must have the courage to protect and defend each other. Today we honor the memory of the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the heroic efforts of our first responders such as police, fire fighters, Coast Guard, and EMTs. Please join us for a moment of silence.
